Unless you find a used handgun anything at that price range is probably going to be something you want to stay away from. You can find some good handguns over the $300.00 dollar range.
Are you wanting it for home defense? Concealed carry for personal defense? Target shooting?
Best thing I can suggest is go to different places and handle different types. Find something that feels comfortable in your hand. If you have any shooting ranges that rent them go rent a bunch of different guns & shoot the shit out of them. Find one you feel comfortable shooting with.
I have a Ruger SR40 full size and I love it. I think I paid $430.00 at my local gun shop.
Personally I would stay away from Jiminez Arms. They started of as Bryco and were sued into bankruptcy. They do not make reliable firearms.

I don't want used, there are things that i just don't think she be purchased as used. I will spend the $ but me buying a $1500 hand gun would be like somebody that doesn't play baseball buying a $300 mit just to have around the house.
Any who, i'm thinking of getting my concealed carry.

I will spend the $ but me buying a $1500 hand gun would be like somebody that doesn't play baseball buying a $300 mit just to have around the house. Any who, i'm thinking of getting my concealed carry. For concealed you are probably gonna want something compact. I have read where people say they conceal a full size 1911 but honestly for most people that isn't gonna work out too well. Do you know anyone who has guns that would let you shoot them or a range that rents them? You will want to find out what caliber you feel comfortable with as well. Most popular calibers for carrying are .380, 9MM, 357, .40 & 45. The 45, .40 & 357 can have a pretty good kick depending on the handgun. The 9MM & .380 not so much. Popular brands are Glock, Ruger, Colt, S&W, Taurus, HK, CZ and many others. Buds is an online gun store that I have never used but it will give you a good idea on pricing. Normally you will pay more at a local store but if you buy it online you will pay a FFL transfer fee and those can go from $20.00 up to $75.00 or higher depending on the FFL you use. www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/21

Just a warning on buying a gun. It's addictive. Once you buy one you will be looking at another & another & another.

www.cheaperthandirt.com/default.aspxBuy a Glock or 1911. Glocks are more user friendly and less maintenance. 1911s are more accurate but require more cleaning. Oh and don't by anything smaller than a .40cal. 9mm have to much over penetration. A .45cal is like thrown a fucking brick at someone at 900 feet per second, that's stopping power.

1911 are really nice guns but they are probably not the best for a first time gun owner. Not saying not to buy one as that will be my next purchase. They can require TLC in the beginning. Normally the mags or ammo causing FTF or FTE issues but for a first time owner that can be a deterrent.
Glocks are nice but for the most part out of his price range. Most I have seen are going to run $500.00 & up. Same with a decent 1911.
S&W makes a good gun and they came out with the Sigma series. $299.00 at Academy Sports for either 9MM or .40. I am not familiar with the Sigma series but it's not too far out of Diz price range.

I will spend the money, i just wasn't sure of what i should expect price wise, that is why i threw out the $250. I have a buddy whom owns about 50 guns that i'm sure would take me to a range and point me in the right direction.

That is the best way to do it. Some guns fit some people better than others. Some people love Glocks and some say it's like holding a brick. I like them but not everyone does.
Sucks to spend a bunch of money on something and then find out you would rather have something else.

I think a Glock 26 is the perfect starter gun. 9mm ammo is inexpensive and also versatile. It's a great conceal carry gun because of it's size but you can use any Glock 9mm magazine so it's alos a great range gun. I have three different clips, one is the standard factory 10 round clip. The other is an 11 round mod that allows my pinky finger to grip the gun and the other is a 17 round clip with a grip extension that allows my to grip with my entire hand. Glock 26s are in the 500-600 range.
Also, I've heard good things about the Ruger LC9, if you're looking for an inexpensive gun that is strictly concealed carry. Taurus makes fairly inexpensive guns for the money.

I've also got a Walther PPK which is my summer clothes concealment gun. Don't get anything less than a .380.
I got a Beretta px4 storm .45 cal for the nightstand.
In a pinch, I'll just roll up my sleeves.

the perfect starter gun is a Remington 870. It is also the perfect gun for home protection. Unfortunately it doesn't work for carry/conceal permits. in which case I submit my next gun purchase: The Ruger Alaskan Modeled here by The Rock in "Faster:" Introduced in 2005, the Ruger Super Redhawk: Alaskan is a short barrelled, big bore revolver. The firearm is distinguished by its 21⁄2" barrel, brushed stainless finish, and oversize Hogue Tamer grip designed to help reduce recoil. The Alaskan is offered in .454 Casull/.45 Colt, .480 Ruger, and most recently, .44 Magnum/.44 Special. The .480 Ruger version was originally a 6 shot revolver like the .454, but was discontinued in 2007. It was reintroduced in 2008 with a 5 shot cylinder. The .44 Magnum features a fluted cylinder while the .454 and .480 versions are unfluted. The revolver is intended for use as a self-defense option against large, potentially dangerous animals such as grizzly bear, cougar, and wild boar. Some critics feel the Alaskan's barrel is too short for such a large caliber revolver, while others believe its relatively compact size, coupled with big game stopping power, makes it a practical "pack gun" for hiking, fishing, or hunting trips in the wilderness. The large magnum cartridges do suffer ballistically from the short barrel, but still produce considerably more energy than is typically available from a compact firearm. On August 2, 2009, Soldotna, Alaska resident Greg Brush was walking his dog, and heard a twig snap. He turned to see an Alaskan Brown Bear sow charging him. He drew his Ruger Alaskan in .454 Casull and fired 3 shots while backpedaling, then fired a final 4th shot into the bear before the gun jammed due to a defective crimp in the bear-load ammo he had purchased from a local supplier. The bear died mid-charge and slid on its nose approximately 10 feet (3.0 m) past Greg's original standing position.

Joking aside Diz, shooting can be a ton of fun. Our 11 year old is getting a .22 for Christmas. (well his dad & he are getting a .22 for Christmas.) Those are a blast to shoot. Cheap as hell to shoot as well.

I don't like revolvers. They aren't sexy. If you gotta kill someone, due it with a revolver. No spent casing laying around when your running away. Also never handle the rounds without gloves on, leaves DNA

Phenom gets it. I guess Voodoo does too, but first in is 60% of the market.
I like a little barely legal double barrel shotgun for the same reasons. Why aim when you can throw a dozen .38s in a general direction all at once?
