So i'm mowing the yard a week ago Wednesday. The kid is in the pool while i'm mowing the back, when i get done back there i jump off the mower, jump in the pool and quickly get out. I tell the kid to get out and come ride her bike while i'm mowing in the front.
I jump back on the mower and the fucker wont start, damn starter is shot. So blah blah blah i get a new gear a couple days later and throw it back on, in the mean time i decide since the mower is down i might as well drop the deck, take off the blades and get them sharpened. Bad idea. There is a tension spring that engages the blades still sitting on the ground after i get the fucker put back together. I have no idea where this spring came from. Needless to say my yard is out of control now and i still don't have a mower.

Should always snap a picture before disassembling. You can't find a schematic on Google?

It's from like the 70's. The name is White. That was a great line of equipment. Used to have a 1974 White Roto Boss 12hp rear tine tiller that was a fucking monster. Beer in one hand, guide the tiller with the other. You'll probably have to take it apart again and find the wear spots for the spring.

So I put a new blade on the mower, it ran like shit for 5 minutes then shut down and wouldn't start.
I'm thinking it's a shearing pin. Anyone tried to change one? Is it hard - should I try it or should I just pay like $80 to have it fixed?

Are you sure that model has a shearing pin, some mowers do not. Shearing pins are relatively easy to replace as they are designed to break, to save the engine, as you probably know

I like the Kohler motors, got my first one on my pressure washer a couple years ago, thing starts half way through the first pull every time. Should be another model/brand for the mower?

A mower from the 1970s still works? Shocking right? Last year when i moved into this house i'm at now i had no mower because at the old place the HOA took care of the lawn. I found this old ass riding mower for $100 so i figured i'd give it a shot. That $20 gear for the starter is all the money i've had to put into it. When i went out this year for the first time, the thing started on the first turn of the key.

My tomatoes have fucking blight again or something. Yellow leaves with black spots working it's way up the plant slowly killing it.
Last year I limed and tilled it in. This year I didn't. But I've been hand liming hoping for results. Nope. PH is between 6 and 7, I've sprayed with Neem in case it was bugs.. no luck.
Too much damn work to have them get super big and nice just to slowly die away. I've been removing the bad parts but at this rate there won't be any leaves left for photosynthesis!
I'm sure the 5000 gallons of water we got this year didn't help.
SUCKS.
