John Hollinger was the guy I was think of. Per the PD: ESPN's John Hollinger is one of the NBA's leading statistical analysts. He broke down the draft candidates and decided upon a surprising choice in determining the best players at each position.
On Monday, Dion Waiters ranked as Hollinger's best perimeter player in the draft. His "Draft Rater" “analyzes college stats to predict NBA performance” in the form of “a giant regression model that gets incrementally smarter as we fill it with more data each year.”
That's a lot of statistical terminology, but Hollinger ranked Waiters fourth on his overall draft board, behind Anthony Davis, Thomas Robinson and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, writing that “Waiters projects as the best small wing since Dwyane Wade, and he’d be a steal if somebody got him in the Nos. 8-10 range currently being discussed.”www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2012/06/nba_draft_cleveland_cavaliers.html

I watched Wiater's highlight tape and I don't see the explosiveness out of him that merits the Wade comparison.

Ol "Accidentally Shit My Pants then Lie about it Cuz I'm Embarrassed" BobbyMo Waiters gets good marks from the experts. Apparently those guys can see the little things in his play that add up to success. I'll trust Scott on this one, but I agree that the Wade comparisons seem a bit premature. The fact that Byron Scott said waiters was second on his board behind The Brow makes me feel a bit better about the pick.
I don't see the Wade comparisons either. What I saw of him reminded me of Baron Davis. Then when I listened to Waiters interview today Baron was the first player he compared himself to.
Interesting that the two big picks of the Scott era are so similar to CP3 and Baron.

Chad Ford, who I actually respect and trust, loves Waiters. If his floor is Davis and ceiling is DWade, I'm ok with that.

Wow, Cavs got the top pick again. Is it still consensus that the big fucker out of UK goes #1?

That's the most likely scenario. A defensive center is a need, and if they're comfortable with his medical status he fits here.
Cavs then need to find a way to turn numbers 19, 31 and 33 into a starting SF.
THe Wizards really made out in this lotto. Jumping up to three is huge for them. If they can add Porter to that backcourt of Wall and Beal that's a nice core. Len wouldn't be too bad either.

Honestly, I was kind if hoping for the second pick so we would just be forced to take Porter and move on.
But now that we got it we have to use it. I wouldn't trade the pick on any deal that didnt involve us getting Marc Gasol or Kevin Love, and I don't see either of those things happening.

Kevin Love or Lamarcus Aldridge are their main targets. Probably multiple picks, Andy, etc.

Porter is the obvious need, but should the strictly draft for need or take the guy that has the best potential to become a superstar and I think that's McLemore.
And while Waiters has looked good and was such a high pick last year, it is tough to do so - BUT Waiters did seem to do his best off the bench and has potential to win the 6th Man there.
Still leaves a gaping hole at SF though - and any reliable scoring threat in the front court. If we can turn the remaining picks into a solid SF either drafting or a trade, then I think McLemore should be the pick.
If not, I like Porter.
I am however intrigued by the darkhorse Len.

What is Noel's ceiling? I'm thinking Jermaine O'neal. His floor is Tyson Chandler. I think he will be more like Chandler. Just don't ever see him being a superstar. He will develop into a solid player, but the man is 7 foot tall and weighs 205. That's not NBA ready.

first off - stay away from damaged goods with the NBA. Second the guy is better defensively than offensively and we already lack a scoring threat in the front court

The game of basketball puts so much stress on the knees. Everybody thinks because Adrian Peterson bounced back quickly anyone can. Completely different.

There are a handful of guys that tore their ACL and came back to play just as well in the NBA.

There are a handful of guys that tore their ACL and came back to play just as well in the NBA. But they seem few and far between. So many guys are shadows of themselves after this injury in basketball. Michael Redd, Penny Hardaway, Baron Davis, Amare, Al Harrington..... And I didn't even mention Oden.

Baron Davis did it in college. Harrington put up better numbers. Al Jefferson, David West, Jason Smith all came back strong.

It'll be interesting to see what they do. One thing I know, they won't shy away from making a controversial pick.
We know this team is big into the advanced analytics. That probably means they love Porter. If they aren't sold on Noel's knee, and do something like Porter at 1 and bring in Nicola Pekovic as the new center, I would be plenty happy. Starting five set plus they would still have AV, 19, 31, and 33 to work with to bring in even more help.
