When Grady comes back would love to see him take over the 3 spot with Brantley leading off and Choo being moved to 6 or 7. I would say to move Santana but you'd then have Choo, Sizemore, and Hafner back to back to back which would be easy for a manager to pitch to late in the game with a lefty.

Don't count on Acta taking Grady out of the 1 spot, he's said it over and over that's the way it's going to stay.

He's also raving about the play of Brantley. Something has to give. At this point the best leadoff hitter on the team is NOT Grady Sizemore.

Maybe they did get good return in the C.C. trade after all.

Choo needs to be dropped in the order. Maybe switch him and LaPorta. Other than that, i don't touch the lineup.

Because that's what we do. Although I was thinking when Grady comes back.

Something's gonna have to give.
Is Grady coming back? I believe next year is a club option, no?
Assume that Brantley takes over leadoff/CF and Buck continues to play well, would they move Grady before losing him?
Although Choo is a FA after this year and has Boras as an agent, so he may be the odd man out. Fucking Choo better step it up so he has some value at the deadline, they may choose to move him before he goes to get Boras money. Philly would probably be very interested in adding a RF but we're not going to get one of the "Four Aces" in return and Joe Blanton is a decent pitcher but can't get out of the sixth inning.

Grady will be back, with his injuries he has no value. At least not enough to move him and he doesn't have an ungodly contract. Choo on the other hand..

Do the math on the lineup --> www.baseballmusings.com/cgi-bin/LineupAnalysis.pyFirst model yields: 5.5 RPG current Acta lineup 5.8 optimal 5.1 worst Optimal lineup is Brantley - Hafner - Choo - Sizemore - Laporta - Hannahan - ACab - OCab - Santana which makes Mikey look real smart. btw - math says best hitter should hit #2. but there's something about the lineup right now that gets into a rhythm, so why mess with it? Why screw with laPorta's head and move him up to 4 or 5 where he may not handle the pressure? It is a lot easier mentally to hit from the 7 hole when there is no expectations on you than from the 4 or 5.

very true, although I was thinking that having Laporta there could protect Hafner some. Especially since they bat from opposite sides of the plate.

The Indians aren't going to be selling Sizemore or Choo if this continues. They might just be buyers though.

The Indians aren't going to be selling Sizemore or Choo if this continues. They might just be buyers though. I think they'll be buyers too. However, what do they have to buy with? If they are going to buy anything it will be pitching and unless they unload Alex White, I don't see too many young pitchers they would be willing to move. All positions are either looking solid, or have the long term replacement waiting in the minors (Chisenhall at 3rd, Kipnis and Phelps at 2nd). The OF seems to have an extra bat now with Buck right where he left off. Grady has one year left and Choo none - they just might decide to move one of them if they don't think they can resign them...unfortunately Grady is hurt and Choo is struggling. Someone would take a chance on Choo I think for a stretch run, and if it is a team like the Phillies they may feel confident they can sign him long term. I don't think the Tribe has much chance with a Boras player.

The only thing I could see them possibly going after would be relief pitching but our pitching is so deep I don't think they would do that either. There just isn't anything else we could need that we don't have .

Young pitching. Whether it be in the minors or already on the team.
That said, I'm not interested in trading away for Joe Blanton types. We could use an ace if this really is for real but at what price could you get one?
It's more likely they just add a starter should another injury hit or pen help should that come up.
Are there even any half year rental aces available?

It wouldn't be hard to upgrade at 3rd base.

It wouldn't be hard to upgrade at 3rd base. I don't know, Hannahan is doing "all the right things" that you would want as a leader. Plus if they weren't playing well there is a good chance Chisenhall would be up here now anyway so I doubt they make a move there.

It wouldn't be hard to upgrade at 3rd base. Actually I think Hannahan is one the biggest reasons the staff has looked so good. You put two good gloves at 3B & 2B and all of a sudden these ground ball pitchers are getting more outs. And he's held his own with the bat.

I agree they aren't going to go get a 3rd baseman and give up assets with Lonnie sitting in Columbus waiting his turn. Same with Cabrera, we'd see Phelps before we go get someone. I also can't see them going after starting pitching with White up here, Talbot coming back soon, Gomez showing he belongs and Pomeranz on the fast track. This team really doesn't have too many weakness' that we should be giving away prospects for.
Maybe a replacement for Germano, Durbin and another lefty in the pen?

Sizemore comes back, the only real hole you have is potentially Carrasco's spot in the rotation. And Talbot was pitching great, so he can fill that. Columbus is essentially a AAAA team of almost-big-leaguers that would be just as effective as any Austin kearns or dogshit like him you'd get at the trade deadline. Would you trade two ace prospects for, say, Ryan Dempster? Probably not
You could potentially buy Albert Pooholes for every prospect in the system, and send LaPorta to the bench (or to St. Louis). That would be... interesting...
And hannahan's glove has indeed earned him the right to play in the postseason. And his bat ain't bad either.

I think you pissed him off with that comment. 5.1 innings doesn't impress me. Control problems despite getting the outs, too many pitches. Elbow may not be hunky-dory.
