That's a lot but they got to start keeping quality players even if it means overpaying at times.

From Peter King:
I think this qualifies as a terrific waste of opportunity: Quarterback Deshaun Watson is skipping the Senior Bowl this week. Watson (Clemson) would have logically played for the South team, which will be coached by Hue Jackson and the Cleveland Browns coaching staff. If you’ve got faith in your ability, and you want to convince the coach of the team with the first pick in the draft—the team that desperately needs a quarterback and will almost certainly choose one high in the draft if it can’t trade for one or sign one before that—why would you not take the golden opportunity to work with Jackson for a week? The other two prime quarterbacks in the draft, Mitch Trubisky and DeShone Kizer, were not eligible, either because they weren’t seniors or because they hadn’t graduated. But a couple notes about the Watson miss: The Browns talked to him and asked him to play this week; he declined. Some of the other players who chose to decline a Senior Bowl invitation, fair or unfair, went much lower in the draft than they’d hoped—Geno Smith, Brett Hundley, Connor Cook, A.J. McCarron. I’m not saying the same fate will befall Watson. And I will be clear: If the Browns fall in love with Watson, the fact that he didn’t participate in the Senior Bowl won’t matter. But what if it’s close? What if Jackson’s on the fence about one or more quarterbacks? Just feels like a big miss to me.

This is the first I've read where the Browns asked him to play. If true it's pretty much a slap in the face considering we have the first and 12th pick in the first round.

Anyway this draft is loaded with defense which we desperately. Yes we need a QB but I don't think any are worthy of a first round pick.

But the AtoZ guys had a question this week that's been gnawing at my brain. Clowney was a beast this year, against both the run and the pass, and is 23 years old. How many GMs would trade their mediocre starting QB for him? Would the Bengals trade Dalton for him? Would the Skins trade Cousins for him? Probably no one would.

I'd probably put the number at about 23 teams wouldn't and 9 would but those 9 likely have a below mediocre or an aging QB. So they make a good point. That said we can get our mediocre or so QB at 33 hopefully. Or we just roll with Kessler if you think he really can grow. BTW, rumors are the Patriots will want at least a 1st for Jimmy. I can't do that.

Easy to say when you already have a Cousins or a Dalton on your team? Could Kessler be a Cousins or Dalton or better? I'd be more likely to take as close to a sure thing in the first and like Tommy says roll with Kessler or see who is there at 33.

That's basically a first round pick but since we have two first round picks I wouldn't have that big of an issue. They just better hit on those first two.

That's a lot but being the Browns and their history of turnover it needed to be done. They have to start keeping talent that's already here. What little there is.

How much would you give up for cousins. Not sure if give up the number 1 but 12 and some change. 2nd this year and next may do it. Better option then Jimmy G but more expensive

I'm starting to think just prepare Kessler this offseason to start and let's see what he has. Draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd if there is one available that they like.
They really need to spend some money and bolster the offensive line in FA or whoever plays QB is a moot point.

I'd be shocked if Washington let Cousins go. I agree. No reason he can't continue to grow & do what Matt Ryan did this year. Falcons fans were calling for Ryan's head just a couple years ago. Redskins will eventually tag or sign him.

Cousins is going to San Fran with Shanahan I think that's where Trubisky ends up. Shannahan is going to get the keys to that car & be told he has years to make it work. So taking a kid with all the tools but needs time makes perfect sense.

Supposedly Kyle really liked Jimmy G in the draft a few years ago. Wanted him over Johnny, obviously. The two of them to San Fran is a strong possibility.
