I have a PC. Not quite as sexy as the new iMac but it'll do in a pinch. Also, that app is just for the stuff on your DVR. I also like to watch live TV occasionally. Do the Directv Nomad then.

That's interesting. Two problems:
1) I don't have a DirecTV nomad device. 2) That's still just your DVR stuff. I want to watch live tv.
I currently have a DirecTV box hooked up to an SD television. I want to instead hook that box into my old iMac and essentially just use it as a monitor.

I'm sure there are wires that can do that.
You're welcome.

And you can watch a lot of live tv off their website now.

Pity I don't have one in my 35 gallon tub full of wires and adapters. I'll just go back and talk to the little purple haired chick who likes Back To The Future references. (No, I did not opt for "Fusion Drive" on the new computer.)

It's not really for DirecTV to support, the signal comes out of the box and their responsibility is done, it's all about getting it into the computer and getting it to understand it.

Directv doesn't want you recording their broadcast and they've gone to great lenths to prevent it.

So I'd have to buy a device on top of software? Fuck it then. I said if it would cost me $100 I'd bail since I can get a brand new 32" TV for about twice that.

That's still just recoded stuff not live right? Yes. Turns your tv into smart tv for amazon, net flicks, internet surfing and can stream directly from your iMac for iTunes and any movie you have

Like I said earlier, I opted against the "Fusion Drive" because this was the first year they did it and I'm sure you all know the rule about that. Also, I hear that you can do it yourself combining a solid state drive with your HD drive keeping the shit you use frequently on the solid state drive and the HD drive being for all of your other shit. Apparently the new Mac OS "Endangered Jungle Lynx with Pegasus Wings 10.4.4.6.8.2.1" manages all of that for you.
I just don't know if it's worth the pain in the ass for an extra 1/4 second per operation. At least for now, maybe when it's 2-3 years old it might make a difference. I used to wait 45 minutes for Falcon to boot up on my old Macintosh SE so waiting a whole 3 seconds for Gimp to boot doesn't seem so bad.

Anybody have any experience with a Roku box? I almost bought a Philips smart tv just now, but luckily I asked the guy at the last minute: "So this will have HBO Go, Amazon Instant, etc?" to which he answered no, just the apps on the box are included. (Which were Netflix, Youtube and Whogivesafuckbook.)
So looking around, every smart tv comes with different apps. Samsung is the only one with HBO Go besides Roku but they don't make anything smaller than a 32" and I'm thinking 26" will fit better on my desk and I'm going to be like 2 feet from it most of the time. So anyone, Roku, Haiku, Fucku?

Roku is solid, my sister loves hers and she's a geek too. I never thought about the smart tv doing HBO Go.... Been shopping for a new one for the basement. Samsung eh?

We've had a Roku for a year or so and have no complaints. No thanks on the "smart" TV. Just give me a great picture & plenty of connections.
Apps for a TV? No thanks. I just bought a new laptop and couldn't get Windows 8 off of it fast enough.
