I thought the point of a PC was they were so cheap, when they start acting squirrely you go buy a new one? No it's that a layman can actually open it and work on it. We don't need special stores that win design awards to sell us overpriced child labor products.

Funny, the overpriced child labor product I'm typing this on is 8 years old and has never had a problem. My wife's PC is 13 months old and I just had to replace the hard drive. The only reason I did that was I was out of town and replacing the disk was about $100 more than I would have been into them for checking it out and extracting the data. If it were any older, I probably would have just bought a new one.

One bad sector and I'll send you a brand new $100 bill. Anyway in the PC world we have a thing called a free-market where several different companies are allowed to manufacture products for them. You bought a Toshiba, well known for being crap whether you want to discuss their TVs, PCs, or any of their other fine products. Next time you need a PC product let me know I can show what has been performing well as of late.

Actually there was something wrong with it. We'd tell it to turn on and it wouldn't.

I like to add custom parts and upgrade periodically when needed. i.e. the solid state drive vs. the mechanical platter, and a new OS for cheap. That and I'm an old school geek. Is it time to flip the core unlocker switch on the motherboard and send the CPU into warp drive yet?

Big buttons to overclock and watch your temps rise...

I'll be damned. I left my Madden 08 CD in the drive (after I used it to play Madden 08 last week) and clicked on it AND IT WORKED IN WIN 08! I don't even have the XP drive connected. I just left it installed on WIN 8 and clicked on it for the hell of it. Weird.
Weirder yet, of course none of my settings were there so it started me off on a stock season which I decided to stick with. So far Charlie Frye has thrown a 74 yard TD pass to Braylon Edwards and Jamal Lewis is tearing up D-linemen left and right.
God I love playing Madden football. The feeling you get when you NEED a play down by the endzone... and you call it.. and it actually comes true is fantastic.
I think a PlayStation 4 just might be in my future. I may finally just have to break down.
Craving the software upgrade.

The last time I played an actual game on the computer was probably SIMCITY. I guess I never understood buying games for a PC if you could just get a Playstation, XBox, etc.
That said we have a Wii & XBox 360 and don't ever turn on either unless the nieces/nephews are over or we have a party.

Yea, I'm by no means hardcore with games, but Madden was one of the reasons I started upgrading my PC myself back in the day.
Then Madden 08 was the last year it was produced for the PC and I was stuck.. unless I bought a gaming system.
I was like.... $300? Just to play Madden? No thanks.
Now.... having second thoughts.

What do you use for controls on the PC? - Madden. Wireless Logitech Rumble Pad 2. It's kind of like a Playstation controller. Attachments:

Hey G&T, well turns out I can build a PC but I can't plug in the correct power supply for the steering wheel. No wonder the force feedback wasn't working. DUH. (shows you what a mess my cables are) I downloaded a bunch of driving/racing simulator demos. Even a truck driving one. There's some interesting things out there. Then I ran into www.iracing.com again and see that they have a 50% off for 3 months of racing or $15. I'm thinking about joining for the heck of it. Hell, in 3 months I'll probably be bored with it.. and football will be heating up again anyway. I always wondered what the online technology is now compared to our Sierra/Papyrus software. For $15 how can you go wrong? Right? It looks pretty damn good to me. I just wonder what the experience during a race is like. I might not be able to stop myself.

Anybody have any experience running a DirecTV/cable box into a computer? I got a new iMac today and I'm thinking of using my old G5 as my new office TV. It would be a lot better picture and sound, plus if I plug it into the router it's essentially a "Smart TV" and can stream from HBOGO, Amazon whatever. I imagine they make a plug that would coax/HDMI into a USB and from there it would just be software to decipher it. I should have asked the Suicide Girl at the Apple store this.

I have a PC. Not quite as sexy as the new iMac but it'll do in a pinch.
Also, that app is just for the stuff on your DVR. I also like to watch live TV occasionally.
