Hey G&T, I need some advice to help me make up my mind. Gonna do this PC upgrade this weekend (new CPU, SSD and WIN 8 installation) Do you think I should go with the stock heatsink (w/ the cooling pipes) or the Thermaltake one w/ the bigger fan (1300 rpm) and bigger heatsink? Will the pipes offset the more CFM's (35.43)? I can't decide and need some professional opinions! P.S. I have some Arctic Silver thermal compound as well. Attachments:

Hard to say on the heat-sink, I've seen some really fancy ones that don't work for shit. The stock coolers are always safe since the manufacturer supposedly tested it, but having a bit of extra cooling is nice when you're coming off turn 4 on the last lap at Dega. If the bigger one isn't too loud I guess I'd try that first. It's not that hard to change them out if you don't like the temps. For serious cooling I like the Corsair coolers myself.

Ok thanks. The Thermaltake is supposed to be quiet and cooler.
I had a heatsink stick to a CPU (like it was soldered) once and screwed up the pins on the CPU when I finally got it out of the motherboard socket.
So I'm a little leary about changing out. Think I'll go with the big one.
Thanks for your opinion!

Yea. I just upgraded my PC for $400 including the OS instead of $2500. You do the math.

As long as you're using the thermal grease you're good to go, won't stick, ever, even Macs use thermal grease so you too can feel important now.

At Walmart now buying compressed air.
T- 30 minutes and counting until final shutdown of Windows XP Pro.
Hopefully there's no problems when we try to go with full throttle up.

You'll be fine, Win 7 Pro finds and installs pretty much anything you have plugged in, pretty slick.

WIN 8 installation successful. All systems nominal.
Running between 27-30 C on the CPU right now.
Except I'm obviously a dumbass when it comes to Windows 8.
Yikes!

In Windows 8 they put the windshield wiper switch in the glove box and the brake peddle in the back seat.
This is one messed up PC OS. It's Tabfabulous! If you have a tab I guess. It's going to take some getting used to and setting up like I like.
That "Start Menu 8" from IObit is a must G&T. Works great.
My box rocks now though. Holy shit is it fast. This SSD is cool. Boot time into Windows is fantastic.

Windows 8 is designed for sitting on the couch with your laptop and having a backlit keyboard and touch screen. Backlit keyboard is awesome.

One last thing...
I was able to do a clean install from the "upgrade" disk I got for cheap $$$ before the end of January. The disk was on sale for $40 (download) or for $15 more the boxed DVD's. In comparison Windows 8 Professional System Builder DVD 64-Bit is $140 on Amazon. (Upgrade disk now $98)
If anyone else wants to install WIN 8 without it going over top of your previous version this video worked exactly as explained. This was particularly important for me as I was coming from 32-bit Win XP and wanted to install 64-bit Win 8.
1 simple registry edit and a command prompt entry was all it took and Windows activated w/ Microsoft and a clean install. (no "upgrade")

I didn't even know they still made towers, how 1999 of you At least I can get my avatar to work! Actually I HAVE had that same case for about 5 builds now. It probably WAS around 2000-2001 that I bought it. LOL I love it. Back then it was the first of it's kind. Big (lots of room to work) and lots of fans. Fans! fans! and more fans! No need for the floppy drive space.... ;-) "]http://tweakers.mobi/nieuws/8354]
