Yea, somewhere right there. Right on the Strip. The Hard Rock used to have their company picnics there. We used to have somebody hand a cooler over the back wall full of beer. (sneaky) That whole area is dead now, the Strip basically ends at Desert Inn. The Riviera and Stratosphere might as well be downtown. Boyd Gaming just sold the land where Stardust and Westward Ho used to be to an Asian gaming company who instead of resuming construction on Echelon Place are going to build this thing: They're calling it "Resorts World". From the same people who named Hello Kitty. Better than a hole in the ground I guess. I would have preferred a resort where all of the towers looked like the Stardust, the Dunes, the Landmark, the Sands, Hacienda, New Frontier etc. That's crazy. I appreciate you posting this stuff. Miss a minute in Las Vegas and you miss a lot, let alone 7 years. Still makes me home sick for some reason. Even though I was born here in Ohio. Then again there is a lot about Los Angeles I miss too. Like NETHER PLACE HAD MUCH OF A WINTER!

I take it the NASCAR Cafe is toast too then right?, since they're connected?
What are they putting there? Wally World?
You have to admit, the Sahara was pretty much a dump. At least it was when I was out there. I mean, even at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino they have painters touching up the walls and fixing stuff up on a weekly basis.
$5 black Jack tables on Friday nights or something like that was the only reason to go there. It certainly wasn't the buffet.

It's about time for God to hit the reset button on Southern California. It's fucked. When we went to see End Of Watch it was amazing how many people afterwards were saying "Yeah, that's exactly what it's like now." My location status "SoCal Refugee Camp" wasn't a joke.
We're going there next month and my wife asked if we should stay an extra day and sight see. -- "No."

I think I went there once as a tourist in '04 and don't remember going back. I didn't like the casino and I don't particularly like the road it's named for. More of a Charleston guy.

I always went Charleston because Gyro Time, the Tap House and some little Mexican restaurant were all accessible.

Mecca this weekend, everyone raves about Daytona but Bristol is the best race of the year. Have been to the August night race a couple times, best party anywhere in the world.

I guess some guy shot himself in the infield at Saturday night's NRA 500. Guessing that'll be the last race the NRA sponsors. NASCAR is very protective of their wholesome image...

I tried to watch NASCAR once.
Surprised spectators aren't blowing their brains out left and right.

Baseball's too boring to watch as well.
Basketball's great! But the NBA leaves much to be desired.

Christmas Abbott, the first female NASCAR pit crew member. Has only worked the lower ranks so far but she is a crossfit beast apparently. Voodoo's wife maybe.

Do not fuck with NASCAR. www.nascar.com/en_us/news-media/articles/2013/04/25/matt-kenseth-crew-chief-reacts-to-penalty.htmlJason Ratcliff said members of Joe Gibbs Racing expected NASCAR to come down hard on the team for an engine infraction discovered two days after Matt Kenseth’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory in Kansas, but admitted that “some of those penalties were quite surprising, were quite shocking.” Ratcliff, the crew chief for Kenseth, was hit with a $200,000 fine, suspended for six points races and placed on probation through Dec.31. The penalties, which also included a loss of points for Kenseth, car owner Joe Gibbs as well as auto manufacturer Toyota, were the result of a single connecting rod that failed to meet the required minimum weight of 525.0 grams. "I respect (NASCAR’s) stance on it and they’ve got to have a go-to guy and that go-to guy is the crew chief." --Jason Ratcliff Ratcliff appeared on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio hours after Wednesday's ruling. “It’s been something we’ve discussed a little bit and obviously we will have to deal with it as an organization and that’s what we will do,” Ratcliff said. Joe Gibbs Racing has competed with engines supplied by Toyota Racing Development (TRD) since 2012, and has no involvement in the building process. “It’s pretty much a turn-key deal,” Ratcliff said. “They provide us with the engines and very knowledgeable people that can tune them at the race track and assist us with installing and removing from the car and then any post-race inspections we would have, they have people there to assist us as well.” But, Ratcliff, who also won at Las Vegas earlier this year with Kenseth, said he understood why he was penalized even though he wasn’t involved in the engine-building process. “I respect (NASCAR’s) stance on it and they’ve got to have a go-to guy and that go-to guy is the crew chief,” he said. “We raise our hand and say … we’re responsible for this race car from the time we get to the race track until the time we get through post-race inspection. … As a crew chief you accept that responsibility. “Now the reality of it is no … these cars are so complex and the amount of detail that goes into them each and every week there’s no way one individual could put his finger on every part and piece. And even if he couldn’t put his finger on it, there’s no way he could oversee every part and piece. That’s why you have good people that support you. “I’m 110 percent convinced this is nothing more than an oversight. I don’t think there’s any intent.” Lee White, president of TRD, told Sirius XM NASCAR that there was no intent to circumvent the rules, and said the issue was “a total screw up on our part.” “I can’t even sit here and tell you that we’re being falsely accused or anything,” he said. “We screwed up.” In addition to the loss of 50 driver points, the three points Kenseth would have earned for the win should he qualify for this year’s Chase For The Sprint Cup have been rescinded and the STP 400 win will not count toward his 2013 win total should he be in contention for one of two available Wild Card positions. Gibbs’ owner’s license for the No. 20 team has been suspended for six points races, meaning the team will not accrue owner points for those events. JGR officials said they intend to appeal the penalties. Until the appeal is heard, Ratcliff will be allowed to continue his at-track responsibilities. “Unfortunately when you are in a competitive sport, things can happen,” Ratcliff said. “The way I view it right now, and the race team’s view, is fortunately we’ve been running really well. I think that 50 points is something … I feel strongly that we can overcome. You have to remember that as of Sunday afternoon we were eighth in points. Unfortunately we’ve had two DNFs this season. To be that high in points think shows how well we have competed. And I don’t think that will change.” The loss of points, as it currently stands, dropped Kenseth from eighth to tied for 14th in the standings.

Nice win for Harvick and Childress tonight, what's not to love about a sport where the winner cracks a beer in victory lane? Tall Buds all around....

Talladega is one of my favorite races, especially with the Gen5 car. Lots of passing and you'll still get the big wreck. The finish for the Nationwide race yesterday was excellent, three-wide at the finish line with the field piling up in a wreck behind them. NASCAR threw a premature caution and they gave the win to Regan SMith the leader at the scoring loop right before the finish line, Kasey Kahne actually led at the finish line, he was robbed IMO. Always a good finish on this track though, it's worth watching at least the last 50 laps.
Qualifying was rained out, the field is now lined up by final practice speeds so the final practice was pretty fun to watch as well. The drivers were all jockeying for the fastest lap knowing a big rain storm was coming. Guessing Voodoo's garden got well-watered yesterday.
