Not everybody has a public sewer system. Everyone that lives in a municipality does. If you don't live in a municipality you have a mound system installed per zoning laws. Either way, this discussion isn't about roads and sewers, it's about the health care system. It's really hard to discuss it with uneducated folk so here's a prerequisite for continuing the conversation. healthland.time.com/2013/02/20/bitter-pill-why-medical-bills-are-killing-us/?hpt=hp_c1

The government runs so many programs and systems so well and efficiently.. why wouldn't I want them in charge of my health and well being? Wait, what? You TRUST them right? They wouldn't fuck you out of a life saving procedure would they?
Broke. B-R-O-K-E .. broke. The country is broke. Bankrupt. In major debt. Where's the money coming from to foot a nations medical bills? What a great idea! Let's TAX the people that are WORKING for their benefits and give it to the people who are not paying into the system.
Look out for 2014 when other laws kick in and those that are working but don't have health insurance through their job and can't afford it, are penalized. That should boost the economy!
Starting in 2014, the new health care law requires virtually every legal resident of the U.S. to carry health insurance or face a tax penalty. The Supreme Court upheld Obama's law as constitutional in a 5-4 decision this summer, finding that the insurance mandate and the tax penalty enforcing it fall within the power of Congress to impose taxes. The penalty will be collected by the IRS, just like taxes.
Obama said he would not raise taxes on the middle class. He's a liar and a phony....and a communist... and a fake.
But at least people can use their free "Obamaphone" to call their "free doctor" to get their "free medication" to get them well enough to cash their "free extended unemployment check" and eat their "free food" from their "free" welfare check THAT I GET UP EVERY MORNING AT 5am TO PAY INTO!!!!!!!!!!!

So reading an article that's about 500 words constitutes an education?
I've gone over itemized hospital bills before. It's outrageous. It's like they say well, the insured patient only pays 20% of this, so let's charge them 5 times as much. If you're not insured, then they'll knock 20% off for you.
Why can't they regulate that aspect of it? It's not fair to charge one price for individuals and different price for others. i.e. $283 for a chest x-ray when they bill Medicare $20.44 for the same service.

So it's okay to have varying cost for the exact same service as long as the discriminating factor is age? Why not race then? If you're white, a standard checkup is $204. Everybody else it's $2830.

Cocksucking freeloaders! Agree completely. To have this discussion though you have to keep it real and discuss the reality of what is happening. The "Obamaphone" is a George W. Bush program, for example. The ACA (Obamacare is a right-wing GOP bullshit moniker) is a huge mistake. Very poorly thought out and planned piece of legislation that the Republican House and the Democratic Senate voted in and the Supreme court held up, that much we know. I do believe Obama is right in TRYING to fix a severely broken system. He was not and will not be successful with ACA, the lobby against him to too large and powerful. But, again this is not my original idea, it's from a respected friend of 40 years that currently holds a high position at Temple University, the ACA was created TO bankrupt the system and is a huge FUCK YOU to the medical and insurance industries that have been fucking us over for decades. If successful, PPACA will topple the current system and force EVERYONE to align into a more reasonable system. Right now the medical and drug industries are holding us at gun point.

The point is you need to be aware of the facts, I haven't finished that article either. My sister just posted this in response to it: "I just finished reading the whole article. Recommend that those of you who stopped early at last go to the last page and read the author's suggestions to fix the problem. Well done piece of work about which I was initially skeptical."

There are still many areas of this country that have septic tanks. Many in the Cleveland area.

To have this discussion though you have to keep it real and discuss the reality of what is happening. The "Obamaphone" is a George W. Bush program, for example. Just wanted to thank G&T for bringing this up. Although, if we want to be technical, the "Lifeline" program which we are talking about was a Reagan Administration creation. It was intended to help the poor and/or incredibly rural call police or fire departments in case of emergency, help the unemployed contact potential employers, report utility outages etc... Dubya just expanded the program from hard lines to cell phones. Which aren't free. If you're around the income bracket that qualifies your kid for free lunches at school you can apply for the program and qualify for up to $9.25 off of your normal monthly bill. That's it.

There are still many areas of this country that have septic tanks. Many in the Cleveland area. Regardless of sewer or septic, your neighbors aren't allowed to say "Fuck it. We aren't gonna pay for any of these options," then just shit in buckets and toss it out into your street. They can't completely shirk the cost and pass the burden onto their community. That's what not having insurance is - because sooner or later, everybody's ass goes to the hospital. And if you can't pick up the tab, everyone else has to. Because John Smith who goes into the ER with a nail through his hand and no insurance is no less of a burden to the rest of society than Juan Sanchez the illegal immigrant who goes into the ER with a nail through his hand and no insurance. The only way to avoid freeloaders is to have everyone buy in from day one.

Another fact most don't know is that Reagan was a democrat and switched parties because Carter was such an easy target. History is a bitch.

It's not fair to charge one price for individuals and different price for others. i.e. $283 for a chest x-ray when they bill Medicare $20.44 for the same service. You're for socialized healthcare then. Through programs like Medicare, or the VA, the governments pays health care providers a negotiated price based on the cost of the service (20 bucks, in your example). For other patients the healthcare provider is trying to make a profit so they get the $200 charge. You want everyone to pay the same, low price based on covering costs instead of making big profits? That's Medicare for all. That's a single-payer system. That's socialized healthcare.

It's a fucking shame men and women who have put their life on the line for this country have to put up with the shit care the VA gives. The federal government does not run one thing better than the private sector. Not one.
