I have. I'm diabetic, so losing health insurance would basically bankrupt me. We make good money, but medical bills will wipe out anyone. That's limited certain job options in the past. The elimination of denying coverage for pre-existing conditions was huge for me. Allows me to know I can move to take a new job under a new insurance plan without fear.

Didn't say I liked it. Said I benefitted from it. Personally I thinks it's a piece of shit. Massive give away to the insurance industry. I say smash the insurance companies to pieces and socialize the whole thing, take private enterprise completely out of it. But this piece of shit system is better than the flaming piece of shit system it modifies.

I've had a LOT of discussion on the topic with people in the industry, ACA was created with the intent to convert it to single-payer down the road, probably under President Clinton.

Basically, all this did was create a 30 hour work week to service industry and other non-skilled workers who will now have 25% less money to buy the mandated insurance policies.
Thanks Obama!

I can see that G&T. Because the way it is currently configured I don't see how it does anything but bankrupt the country. It's just too inefficient. The only way to make it work is to chop off the need for a profit margin, and that means a government takeover. Once you accept the idea that every American is entitled to health care, which I do, government is the only way to get there.

I agree but my sister who is a top exec in the insurance industry doesn't. I say lose the post office (we can't without modifying the constitution) and centralize healthcare and welfare. My sister says the government will never be able to run it(single-payer), she's probably right.

My thoughts are this. Eliminate all social welfare programs on the federal level. Let the states set up whatever kind of single-payer healthcare and/or welfare programs that they want. This would be more efficient and when it does eventually fail, it's only 1/50th of the country that is affected.

I think the state govt of Utah did - they said it would save money on utilities and whatnot. Ended up saving a shitload on OT - apparently when people are already there for 10 hrs they are less likely to stick around for an hour of OT.

I thought we were entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I don't know when we got into free cell phones, medical care, food, housing, college etc., but don't I feel like a dummy for not grabbing with both hands all this time.

You feel entitled to a public sewer system? It's not in the Constitution, but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea.
There are some problems that are best solved through collective action. Everyone shits. Everyone gets sick. So lets set up institutions that address these universal needs, which everyone pays into.

Great example.
A) Not everybody has a public sewer system.
B) The government isn't forcing people who don't to join the public sewer system.

I don't know what country you live in but in the USA most states and cities require you connect to their system when in the city limits OR build a mound system that complies with the local zoning laws.
