Santana came out on fire this season and I thought that was largely due to his movement down in the lineup out of the Cleanup spot. Less pressure on him to be the guy and we saw the results early and often. Swisher comes in as a big money free agent and is put in the Cleanup spot which relieved Santana of such duties and worked wonders for Los in the early going for the Indians. Reynolds being on fire didn't hurt either, but he can't be trusted in the 4 hole whatsoever. Now we see Swisher has moved up in the lineup out of the Cleanup slot and he seems to be snapping out of his funk. Weird. This team doesn't have a true Cleanup hitter, that's a definite issue IMO.

Name the A's cleanup hitter. Now the Cardinals. Now the Diamondbacks.
Three of the best teams in baseball.

That's a fair point. I guess what I'm saying is that I'd feel more comfortable with this team if there wasn't still so much lineup shuffling. That's all. It seems to me historically the teams that have been consistent winning teams have stability in the lineup.

But to add to that, maybe it's a good thing that we're versatile in that aspect?

I think the bigger issue is the mental errors. How do you fix that now? This team can do some damage over next couple weeks or play themselves out of it. Big home stretch.

Enormous home stretch. Need to not only make up ground but build ground. And you're right, you'd think that a Francona managed team wouldn't fizzle out mentally as often as they have and it's extremely frustrating.

That's kinda why I said earlier today that this team seems to be so two-faced to me. I had them at 78 wins before the season started so anything over that is a bonus to me. They've shown playoff potential but the flip side of that coin is the meltdowns where the offense disappears while getting solid starting pitching. So many peaks and valleys with this team and it's pretty much what I expected.

I said 82-86. I added a few at the break but I bet my initial guess is close..... Unless they wake up.

So then we agree, not a playoff team yet.

I had them in the 60's. I don't know what to think anymore. haha Diz 60 wins is a given, I went ten up from 68 last year because even that is a big improvement. This isn't the NFL where a team can go from 5-11 to 11-5 in one season. Baseball takes some time. And yes, even after the All Star break, I don't know what the fuck to make of this team. Two-face fucks.
