Gets 9 years and $214 million from the Tigers. Crazy.
I wonder if Miguel Cabrera is available now?

For some reason the board brought me to Tommy's reply and I thought the Tribe signed him.
Then I remembered: "Oh, right, this isn't Bizarro World".

Ugh. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
How can anyone expect the Indians owner to spend? Fans don't show up anymore. The mystic of Jacobs Field is gone. The only time that place is packed is July 4th, when the Yankees come to town or if they are actually contending come August.
I know you'll come back with the chicken and the egg argument. And I know fans don't want to see their favorite players leave. But that's how it is now, either accept it or hate the game, not the owner.
The Rays lost about every big name they had to free agency. The Red Sox spent per usual, and even added one of the Rays top names. Guess which one was in the postseason last year?
The Tigers will be kicking themselves for this deal in a few years. As will the Angels with Pujols. It's exciting and fun to the casual fan but it rarely works out.

Remember when Jordan made 30 million a year. He is the only player i've ever seen that is worth making over 20 million a year and he played in half the games these guys do.

27, 35, 25, 29, 20, 10, 12. Those are the net operational income of the Cleveland Indians in millions since 2005. Those numbers are after all player, and staff salaries are paid, stadium taxes and upkeep, and operational costs, i.e food and equipment. This is the money the owner pockets. These numbers do not reflect the income that STO generates, which is owned by Larry Dolan, not the Cleveland Indians. STO's revenues are not known since they are a privately held company.

So the Indians aren't a business? They shouldn't try to make money?

Tommy, It's not about making money (although he's making a bunch of it, thanks to consumers paying for junk). It's about a cheap SOB who bought a club still in a record setting streak of sellouts with Fans wearing Indian's garb all over NE Ohio. Then he cuts the hell out of the budget, fails to keep quality players, sees attendance plummet, & states that he'll spend money when the Fans spend money. He LESSENS the quality of the product & expects me to spend MORE? Dolan can kiss my ASS!!! I'll pay good money for a good product, but I won't pay SHIT for mediocrity. As my Son knows, I'll root for the Tribe again when a REAL owner buys them (can we say Dan Gilbert?). Ol' pissed off Dad

As my Son knows, I'll root for the Tribe again when a REAL owner buys them (can we say Dan Gilbert?). Ol' pissed off Dad Should Dolan have ever bought the Cleveland Indians? Probably not. But just like Dick Jacobs, he is a business man. I know you and many don't look at Mr. Jacobs in that way, you see him as an angel, but he was a very smart man who did very well for himself for a long time. He bought at the right time and sold at exactly the right time. When was the right time? Glad you asked. The Indians perfect storm started just as the Cleveland Browns were leaving. The economy was as good in Cleveland as it ever had been, the ballpark was beautiful and the Cavs were not very good. Perfect strorm. EVERYBODY wanted to go to the Jake. I'm talking die hards, little kids, old ladies, 22 year old hot sorority chicks, nuns, bosses, secretaries, EVERYONE. It wasn't just that you were going to the game. It's that you got to tell everyone you were going to the game. 2000 rolls around and Dick Jacobs, who bought the team for $35 million sells the team to a "fan" who again probably shouldn't have bought. Price? $323 million. In 2001 the Indians had their highest payroll ever. EVER. At over $93 million. They lost again in the ALDS. Hadn't seen the ALCS in 4 years. They brought a similiar team back the following year with bad results. Meanwhile the Browns finally made the playoffs. And the next year? A kid named Lebron James was drafted. Also the great economy? Gone. Perfect storm? Gone. Dolan? Up shit creek. Attendance went to shit in 2003 and so did the payroll. They've been to the playoffs once since. And that year they averaged 28,000 fans. I know it's easy to just look at the whole picture and say this whole franchise got fucked when Jacobs sold to Dolan. I hate Dolan. Sell Dolan, sell. But look around baseball. The Indians aren't alone. You just want it to go back to when we were actually the "big boys of the league" again. And I'm telling you that perfect storm will never happen again.

Slightly impressive. Maybe you should apply for the opening at the plain dealer for Browns beat writer.
