It's good in that:
1. The NBA blows right now. They need to make drastic changes, including contraction.
2. We get to hear about Lebron's choke for another year.
3. The Cavs would get the 1st overall pick again.

The Cavs won't get the first overall pick. That was the Clippers pick and they would get it back.

Now that I read around, there is no defined answer to what they'd do. Could do like the NHL and pull records from last 3 seasons. Could do the same order as last year. Could hold another lottery with same odds as last year.

This sounds like the most logical choice, but i know that means nothing.

From what I am hearing, and it is from a damn good source, if the NBA season is lost, the Cavs will be screwed as far as the lottery goes. Basically, every team would start with the same odds. Teams would then be penalized for playoff appearances in the last 3 years, the Cavs have 2. A team would also be penalized for having the #1 overall pick, that area is a little more murky as the Cavs had it, but as diz pointed out, it wasn't ours.
Gilbert is trying to push that the landscape of the NBA changed drastically last year, and that this method simply isn't fair. He has some support, but not enough. Our best hope is that they just redo the lottery from last year, but at this time this is the least likely scenario.

What's the dynamic among the owners? Anyone know if a single holdout like Gilbert could blackball a deal that screws us, or would he need to reach a certain threshold and put together a coalition with Cuban and others?

I believe the NBA owners saw the NFL and believe that if they hold their ground they will win. I also believe they are sticking together pretty good also.

Sounds like the season is now just about cancelled.
No big deal to me. Again the league needs to be fixed & its one less chance for Lebron to get a ring.
Hurts the economy though.
I wonder if guys that came out (Kyrie Irving) are kicking themselves, even if they won't admit it.

Probably not. Not sure Irving would go #1 this season.

Probably not. Not sure Irving would go #1 this season. Good point. Although I don't know a lot about the upcoming draft class. Still has to suck in a way to be locked out when he could be on a college campus playing hoops. Coach K is about to grab the win record too.

This upcoming draft class looks like an all-time great one. At least compared to last year's. How the owners decide to determine draft order if there's no season will have a huge impact on the future of the Cavs franchise. A top 3, or even top 5 pick this year would give us a great boost. But if they average out the last 3 seasons and we're picking in the low 20's it would be a real kick in the teeth.

I wonder if the NBA will find a way to factor in FA losses and gains in the draft order?

If they find a way to get rid of about 10 teams, keep the Cavs, and murder Lebron?
And the NBA might become my favorite sport.
