It's a good move. Is he old as balls? Yes. Did he have a bad 2011? Yes. But he'll be your 4 or 5 and brings a vet to the rotation.
Masterson Jimenez Tomlin Carmona Lowe
I think they are going to go all in for next season & I don't think this is the last of their moves.

I agree Tommy, I look for them to make a significant FA move. They needed a 4,5 starter, and you can do a hell of a lot worse than Lowe. He pitches a lot of innnings, he keeps you in games. We gave up a low level arm, and Atlanta is paying all but $5 million of his salary. You aren't getting a better arm for that money on the open market.

Oh another thing, I pay almost zero attention to NL pitchers ERA unless they are a #1. Reason being, pitchers in the NL come out of games a hell of a lot earlier than in the AL due to pinch hitting.

That or a blockbuster trade. I just feel like that Jimenez trade was the start of a big push this team. I think they see that they have the talent in here right now to possibly win it all but that window will shut soon if they don't act on it.

Damn it Tommy, now you have me all excited. I am going to have to look and see who I think makes sense. They have a ton, I mean a ton of arms in the farm system, plus a few guys in the farm system that won't be coming up anytime soon, not because of talent, because they are behind Kipnis (Phelps) or crap like that.
What would you say are the biggest needs now? I would say 1b (though Santana should be there with Marson at C full time) 3b, and a corner outfielder with some pop.

I move Santana to 1B full time. I think he can be a 35+ HR guy. Marson is a good catcher, even if he has a weak bat. Let him be the C. At 3B give it Chisenhall for now.
#1 need IMO is a LF with pop.

I'm telling you I would bring in Cuddyer. He can play 1st and the OF. Gives you some flexibility with the whole Santana/Marson thing. He is not the big move though. I agree with Tommy, I think they are going to be aggressive. They announced a 3% ticket price increase, something is planned.

Santana scares me at first. He's not a very good fielder.

I'm just going to throw this out there, but if there ever was a year where the Indians could pull off a move this big, this is it. The name...... Prince Fielder. Think of the teams usually involved in big deals like this, the usual suspects. Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, White Sox, Tigers...... anybody I am missing? Guess what, they all have their 1B. If there was ever a time you could get a guy like Prince to sign a short term, high dollar contract, this is it. The market for him isn't going to be huge, because of the prior mentioned.
We just said no to $9 million for Grady. Thoughts are bringing Thome back on the cheap, which is likely, and trying like hell to unload Haff. That might not be as hard as you think. The Tribe wouldn't want much in return, and Boston could lose Papi, the Yanks DH'ed Posada some last year, it could happen. You could throw that money at Prince, and it might be the best deal out there.

I can't imagine a team that traded CC and Lee away because of money making a run at a Prince Fielder type of player. Yes I would love to see it, just don't think it'll happen.

I don't think you are that crazy for the Prince comment. They will probably kick the tires on him but I'd bet odds are the Cubs land either him or Pujols & the Cardinals might land the other. Other teams to consider: Texas, Miami (Marlins make a splash in new place?), SF & Colorado.

Different situations Paul. They knew that they didn't have the other players in place to justify the money it would take to keep those guys. Trading them allowed them to speed up the rebuild process. The Indians thought process is, rebuild, contend for 2-3 years, rebuild. Rinse, repeat.
They see their window of opportunity this year and next. They will make a move to help that.

Colorado has Todd Helton, he is the franchise there, doubt it. Texas will most likely lose a few pitchers because they can't afford them, and who knows with the Marlins. Most likely scenario is Fielder and Pujols stay with their current teams.

Beltran is an OF & Helton is 38.
Fielder is gone from Milwaukee, they have pretty much already said goodbye, couldn't afford him & Braun.
Cubs are gonna go balls in for one of them.

Belt is the guys last name in San Fran Tommy. He is one of their top prospects. Was up and down this year. Sick power, strikes out too much. They could also move Posey to first depending on his rehab from injury. I know Helton is old, but he has earned his ability to ride it out there. Plus I think they have a very nice 1b prospect that should split time this year. Name escapes me and I am too lazy to look it up.

As the resident Miami sports expert, I've heard they have serious interest in both Pujols and Fielder. New stadium = going all in.
On another note, what would you think about a trade for Hanley Ramirez? I heard he may be available. The team is not too high on him.

Not many have mentioned it but it makes sense for Miami to make a splash. I like Hanley but SS is the one position we might be set at. I guess we could move him over to 3B. I bet they keep him though, the Guillen hire should help there.
