I heard the dip shits on 92.3 talking this morning about Dan Gilbert bringing a NHL team to Cleveland. It would be a great idea but i'm not sure the Cleveland market could support a NHL and an NBA team at the same time.
Is there any rumor to the Columbus Blue Jackets maybe needing to relocate because of a lack of fans? I'm hearing they are pulling less than 9,000 per game, but i'm not sure how many people should be attending.
I'd be down for an NHL team in Cleveland, especially if the team already had Rick Nash on it.
I'm not a huge hockey fan but my girlfriend is and she's been getting me into it a little bit.

Perhaps. They have mentioned it down here. Attendance is pretty bad for the most part, but honestly its just because the team is pretty bad. They would get support if they were winning. I think they are already 0-4.
It looks like they might switch them to the Eastern Conference next year which might help build rivalries, etc. That could help.
I don't think Cleveland would support them any better than Columbus though. Hell I don't know if Cleveland will be able to support 3 teams for much longer.
The one idea I would throw out there would be to play 5 or 10 home games in Cleveland and stay based in Columbus. Get fans up there more into the team. It would be similiar to when the Packers played a few homes games a year in Milwaukee.

FWIW the Lake Erie Monsters average about 6,000 fans at the Q. Last year when they made their playoff run, they were getting in the mid-high teens. This is minor league hockey. I think just by having the draws of other NHL teams that number would increase. The real problem is scheduling between the NBA and NHL at the Q. Minor league hockey is far more likely to work around the NBA schedule so that teams play in that quality of an arena. The arena in Columbus is very nice, shame they aren't doing better.

CTown would blow CBus away in attendance if the Jackets came to town. But it would only last a few years if they didn't start winning. How bad is a team that has Nash and can't win?

I hope they move the Cavs out of Cleveland. Why? Because I honestly don't think Cleveland, with how it is headed, can continue to support 3 teams. The Browns are here for good. I love the Indians & baseball. The NBA was going to shit IMO anyways and then the Lebron thing ruined it for me. So if one has to go, I want it to be the Cavs. I'd be pissed if the Indians left. I honestly don't think the Cavs leaving would even bother me at this point. I'm actually happy with the lockout.

I can't argue with that logic, but the Cavs aren't going anywhere.

I think the NBA really could be screwing itself over. Hockey lost a season, and honestly they still haven't recovered. With the exception of hockey towns like Detroit, Canada, NY, and some others, unless a team is winning they have the same issues as Cbus. Pittsburgh doesn't have an NBA team, they had an amazing run with Lemieux and Jagr. After the lockout, their attendance sucked until they started winning. I think the NBA is going to have the same problem. People became disenchanted already when mega-stars started forcing their way into mega-teams, the lockout behind it could be disaster. I wouldn't be surprised to see 4-6 NBA teams completely fold in the next 5 years.

I'm actually rooting for a lost season in the NBA as long as the system gets fixed for a better product unlike the MLB strike that amounted to a lost WS and accomplished nothing.

I'm actually rooting for a lost season in the NBA as long as the system gets fixed for a better product unlike the MLB strike that amounted to a lost WS and accomplished nothing. The NBA faces the same problem baseball did. The model is so messed up, so far gone, how do you go back and fix it now. MLB couldn't put in a salary cap, because 1/2 the league would have to gut their rosters. You can't fix what is wrong in the NBA with a new CBA. You can't punish teams for acting accordingly under the old CBA.
