We just signed Richard Jefferson to fill the "I thought he retired in 2009?" Shawn Marion role.

Cavs finally moved Haywood along with Miller for two trade exceptions. I don't fully understand what the hell a trade exception is but I think it means they can go get 2 players in the next year and they don't get taxed on it or some shit.

I'm amazed they were able to move Miller, him being LeBron's boy.
When you trade players in the NBA and you're over the cap, the outgoing and incoming salaries have to be about equal. Kobe makes $30M, so if you want him you have to send players back to the lakers who's contracts total about $30M. OR, you can send a $10M trade exception (if you have one) and $20M worth of players contracts. It's filler.
Ideally we could use it in a straight up swap for a decent ~$10M guy who's team has underperformed and has decided to tank for the draft and slash salary to get under the cap. Someone like Demar Derozan or Trevor Ariza. Andre Iguodala would actually probably be the ideal, as his salary is about a perfect fit and he would give us a superb backup for LeBron. But the odds of Golden State going in the toilet aren't very good, obviously.

LeBron Answers Questions On Twitter From Fans Including His Favorite Seinfeld Episode And Will He Do Space Jam 2 CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – LeBron James answered questions from fans for an hour on Twitter Tuesday night. He was asked anything and everything ranging from his favorite movie, song and even episode of Seinfeld, to if he will do Space Jam 2. But the first question he fielded was about teammate Tristan Thompson, who is a restricted free agent and yet to come to an agreement with the Cavs on a long-term contract. cleveland.cbslocal.com/2015/07/28/lebron-answers-twitter-questions/#.VbggTD1yPvE.twitter

Contract details coming out for JR Smith. 2 years, 10.3 million. Year one is just 2M guaranteed, the rest in incentives. Year two is a player option year, again just 2.1M guaranteed and the rest is incentive based.
He opted out of a deal that was gonna give him over 6M this year.
Unless his play falls off dramatically this deal is great for the Cavs. Even if the incentives are easy to reach the team has insured itself against injury or lengthy suspensions. Huge mistake by JR and his agent to opt out.

Cavs have signed former first round pick Austin Daye. 27 years old, SF depth. Most recently played with the Spurs. I like the pickup, he's a guy I thought a lot of coming out in the draft years back.
Downside - he's a journeyman former 1st round bust. But what else do you expect this time of year?
Upside - he's young, cheap, reasonably athletic, and FREAKISHLY long for a small forward. 6'11". You can't teach size, and that combined with his decent outside shot will give the coaches a lot of matchup options to play with if he makes the team.
The Pistons hoped they were getting the next Tayshaun Prince when they drafted him, and that's a name the Cavs were linked to earlier in the offseason, so this move makes sense in that respect. (Prince is a player that I've always considered extremely underrated - really liked his game back in the day). Daye hasn't become nearly the level of player Prince was, but at this point in their respective careers I'd probably rather have Daye.

Anthony Bennet has been waived by the TWolves. Two years after taking him first overall and one year after trading him for Kevin Love, the Cavs are free to sign him for peanuts. Any takers?
We've got five roster spots open for camp. I can think of worse things than using one on an athletic big man with a jump shot who should be going into his senior year at UNLV. But it'll be hard enough for him to ever overcome that first pick stigma; it'll only be that much harder in Cleveland. We probably aren't the best spot for him.
