According to sources the Nets would receive Howard, Jason Richardson, Chris Duhon and Earl Clark in the proposed deal. The Magic would get Brook Lopez in a sign-and-trade, Luke Walton, Damion James, Shelden Williams, Armon Johnson and three first-round picks -- two from the Nets and a lottery protected first from the Clippers. The Cavs would get Kris Humphries in a sign-and-trade, Quentin Richardson, Sundiata Gaines, a first round pick from the Nets and three million in cash. The Clippers would receive MarShon Brooks.
Sources told ESPN.com that the complicated deal was getting "close."

So they get a double double guy, two cheap backups, and another first? Yeah sign me up. This has everything to do with making sure Bynum doesn't leave LA, yet.
If the Lakers struggle out of the gate, the Bynum trade rumors will be crazy.

But here's my issue: when the hell is this team looking to compete for a title? 5 years from now? You would be creating another monster in Brooklyn along with Miami & Chicago, all teams in your conference.
And you'd likely be signing Humphries to a multi year deal, putting money towards an average player rather than putting it towards a star. Seems like an Indians type move to me. Not sure it makes sense.
Wouldn't it make more sense to just suck again next year and get another top 5 pick?

Only the first year of Humphrey's deal will be guaranteed.
As for the other teams, DWade is on the back 9 of his career. Joe Johnson also, plus he's overrated. Dwight has a bad back, that and foot issues are the worst thing for a big man. Not to mention they are crazy limited when it comes to completing their rosters. Cavs will be a playoff team in two years, and legit contender in three. Book it.

This does 2 things: 1.) it makes the Cavs better. 2.) it makes it harder for Lebron to win another title.

Fair point on Lebron but again making the Cavs marginally better doesn't really help the overall cause. It would be better to be in the top 5 of the lottery again than be just outside the playoffs. Unless you think they already have the chips in place with the 4 guys they've drafted.

They can unload Humphries at the break, then just not resign the other 2. Get a top 5 pick and sign Bynum to a max contract. I'm happy with that.

Even if the Cavs make this trade they are still a lottery team next year. Book it.

Bynum is a pipe dream. Free Agency is a non-factor for this franchise unless and until we win our first title.

Normally I would say so too, but the fact that he listed us as a possible destination gives me hope, Flats. My money is on him returning to LA.

Sounds like the deal is dead, likely because Humphries wanted a multi year deal. I'm glad they didn't budge on that.

How many years in a row has he been the subject of trade rumors? Also not sure he and Kobe have the best relationship. How many years do the Lakers, and Kobe specifically have left as legit title contenders? The Cavs will have young talent to build around, and if Waiters shows anything this year, could tip the scales.
