Kaman is 30 too, aren't the Cavs trying to go younger than that? I don't get the love for Kaman. While I'd love to knock off the Heat, I'd love another top 5 lotto pick more .... This team really needs to move Session. For starters, he has value. He should be starting elsewhere. Secondly, he would allow the second-team group drop off and reach the level of sucktitude required to land Lamb or Barnes.

Another sport where tsaw wants to tank it for better draft picks. BTW, Sessions is close to becoming a Laker. I think Jamison will be on the team past the deadline, then they will just buy him out. He might end up in LA too.

Greg Oden is a FA next year, he should be nice and fresh from his vacation. is there such a thing as a Blazer fan after making that mistake again? Gotta have a big man. Bowie over Jordan Oden over Durant

I'll say this - if we make a move for Kaman I don't think it will be to rent him for half a season or to flip him to someone else. I think it will mean that Gilbert is interested in a faster rebuild than most people thought. Kaman and Andy make a nice frontcourt, you got Irving at the point, and say we get a little more draft luck and grab Barnes for the 2 spot. That starting lineup is one FA signing or trade for a decent SF away from being able to win a round or even two in the playoffs for the next 1-3 years.
But again, I doubt we make the move.

Anyone that thinks Gilbert isn't expecting wins and playoffs this year...next at the very least hasn't been paying attention. He'll give them a couple years to get some young talent and then start forcing some winning. He doesn't do losing very well.

I'm with Paul, the longer they float around this 8 seed the more chance Gilbert says fuck it let's try to win now. Not saying they will grab a bunch of veterans and ruin their cap going forward but maybe they try to trade for actual players who can contribute rather than draft picks. I'm not sure that's the best plan but you know he'd love the idea of taking on Miami in the playoffs.

I don't think the disinterest is in Kaman, I think it's in the asking price. They supposedly want expiring contracts or a first round pick. Would getting Kaman get them out of lottery range? I don't know, but that price seems awfully steep to the Cavs.

Isn't Kaman himself a big expiring contract?

Isn't Kaman himself a big expiring contract? Yes. $14.3 million of expiring contract.

That's what they want. The only way the Cavs could probably give them something interesting and get close to the cap number is Boobie & Varajeo & Casspi. But I doubt the Clippers would have any interest.
Obviously then the Cavs would free up even more cap space to go after something big (who won't come to Cleveland anyways).
The draft is the only way this team ever gets back to real contention.

Each night Irving plays like he is, our chances of signing a significant FA improve.

I spoke to a Cavs scout before the Clemson-Duke game earlier this month (guess he was looking at Rivers and the Plumlees). He said Gilbert is more patient than fans perceive him to be and as evidence of his long-term approach he pointed to his building Quicken Loans from scratch.
I'd be shocked to see the Cavs give up draft picks or any young core pieces. They know they're not going anywhere this year. They know they'd be best served following the OKC plan and pairing Irving with another lotto pick.
Scout also said biggest need is a wing but that's fairly obvious when you have Parker and Casspi stating out there.

Love the Kyrie pick at the time and love it more now. He's looking like Chris Paul 2.0. But this is who the Cavs probably should have selected at No. 4 even if they had to wait a year or two on the buyout (and it's not like they're competing for an NBA title this year or next) Could have come away with a potential franchise C and PG www.otrbasketball.com/forums/topic/24524-thorpe-on-valanciunas-he-might-have-the-most-upside-of-any-draft-pick-this-year/ESPN analyst David Thorpe Valanciunas might have the most upside of any draft pick in this year's class. Who doesn't need a scoring machine who can rebound, run and defend? He's also a high-motor player. Put it this way: If he was coming out of college after a year at UNC, he'd have gone No. 1 overall. At worst Valanciunas looks to be a solid big man with starting potential, thanks to his willingness to rebound and defend, and his ability to make perimeter shots. But he's a scorer as well, with post moves and a knack for getting good looks. If he can provide a go-to scoring option and all the benefits that come with it -- drawing double-teams, getting lots of free throws, etc. -- that will take him to another level. When he enters the NBA after next season, we'll probably see what I'm writing about here.

I've always been a big fan of both of these guys. I wish Larry would return to coaching. IMO he was much better at that, then he was/is a GM.

Yep. Freaking stud. He's got to be a top 20 property in the NBA when considering age, contract, upside, etc., no? Tristan was very effective, too, very high-energy tonight. Still, think Jonas should have been the pick but that's not to say Tristan can't be an asset.
