Dan Gilbert. From what I have heard, Gilbert thinks if Howard becomes a free agent that the Cavs have a legitimate shot at signing him. One thing about Dan you must understand, he is extremely confident in his sales ability, and sometimes is not realistic. This is probably one of those, but he does have some interesting thoughts on it.
1.) If Irving and Thompson show serious promise this year, and they will have every opportunity to do so, the Cavs could look like an up and coming team. Young PG, young PF, Andy, and most likely a top 5 pick in a loaded draft.
2.) With the amnesty of Davis, the Cavs are going to have enough cap room next year to offer 1, potentially 2 max players, as Andy could be involved in a trade.
3.) While the above two make sense, this one is a bit more out there. Dwight and LBJ don't like each other. Dan wants to sell Dwight on come here and do what LBJ couldn't and you own this state.
This is a long shot at best, but if Irving and Thompson play well this year, the Cavs would have an attractive young core to offer.

I would love to see Howard here. LBJ would be pissed.

This free agent class is stacked. We need Irving and Thompson to show significant promise. If they do, we could be a big player in next years class. Especially if we have a top 5 pick and have a chance to get Barnes, Rivers, or Lamb.

Tommy, money talks in the NBA. Plus don't under estimate how much other players around the league hate LBJ. Gilbert will sell that. Win one title here, do something LBJ didn't, and your legacy is greater than his no matter how many titles he wins in Miami.

I'm not sure how much legacy matters to most of these kids. Plus living in Cleveland is a tough sell to most in their prime. Let's be honest their best chance to get great again is through the draft and adding pieces around it. Have I told you lately how much I hate that fuck LBJ?

I'm not gonna say the Cavs have no chance of making improvements to their roster through free agency. But I WILL say that FA is the third most likely route for them to do so, after the draft, and trades.

The Cavs have a great opportunity to add another building block with what should be a high pick next year. They could easily be back to being relevant in two years. I wouldn't discount them pushing hard for free agents next year flats, Dan is impatient and wants to win now.

I'm not much of an NBA fan these days, really miss the what it used to be. But I find it amazing that the whole LBJ thing didn't kill the Cavs interest for some of you. They went from one of the most exciting teams in the league to a doormat in the 10 seconds it took that prick to say his intentions.

Why do so many people say,"I hate the NBA" LBJ this LBJ that. It's simple don't follow. Don't watch. Why are you taking it so serious. It's entertainment. It's entertaining as hell. If NBA was not creating super teams and drama no one will watch. Again simply don't watch it. I know on Christmas Day I'll be watching all the games.

I asked my Dad what he thought about the Cavs this year and he replied: "I don't watch _____ golf."

I find it amazing that the whole LBJ thing didn't kill the Cavs interest for some of you. To be honest, for me that's kind of the moment they made their bones as a Cleveland sports franchise. Before that they had always just sucked - no different than plenty of other shitty teams. But that incident was so outrageous, so unrivaled in the history of sports, so excruciatingly awful - that it just had to be a Cleveland sports moment. When that happened the Cavs sort of joined the Tribe and the Browns in a way.

If this was one year later, the Cavs chances of getting a good FA would be increased dramatically. Under the new CBA, a team over the luxury tax threshold can't receive a player in sign and trade. That would eliminate a bunch of teams.
My guess is Howard ultimately ends up in New Jersey, but if they cant resign Williams, all bets are off. He can say Dallas all he wants, I don't see that happening. It will be interesting to say the least. If the Cavs miss out on free agents next year, I hope they sign a bunch of guys to one year deals and wait for the CBA to help them in a few years.

I think Howard will be a Laker. And Shaq will accuse him of stealing his act again.
