am in a 10 team keeper league.
Some out of the norm rules we use: You can keep a player but they have had to have been drafted and in the fourth round or later. You give up your selection one round higher than the previous year.
I drafted Michael Turner in the 13th round in his final year with San Diego and have kept him since. I have also had Forte since his rookie year and he was a 7th rounder this year.
Also - if you don't make the playoffs, you go to the loser pool. The "winner" of the loser pool gets the first pick in the draft.
So I had Turner and Forte and the 3rd pick in the draft.
My team:
QB (start 1): Romo/Freeman WR (start 3): Calvin Johnson/Fitz/Holmes/Boldin/Julio Jones RB (2): Turner/Forte/Wells/Lynch/Redmann TE (1): Graham/Moore K (1): Bironas DST (1): Lions/Cards (Cards play Carolina this week, wanted that matchup)
Thoughts?

i would try to trade a receiver or 2 and try to get a top 7 QB or RB.

I am happy with Romo for now.
Gonna see how the season starts before I pull the trigger on something. Jones will be overvalued because he is keeper eligible.
The problem is that the top RBs are all keepers for someone else - CJ, AP, RR, JC, McCoy...no one is gonna give one of them up without overpaying.

Realistically, you don't have any "first round" type of players and that is going to hurt. Any time your top 2 scorers are receivers, it's not going to turn out well.

I disagree - the gap between the first and second tier RBs is no where near the gap between the first and second tier WRs - and there are fewer first tier WRs (I have two). That said, there is always a handful of RBs that come out of nowhere each year - Hillis and Blount last year. I don't know - I just think the days of RB/RB are over, and the days of having to take a RB first are on their way out. Too many teams are splitting a significant amount of carries.

Last year the top fantasy receiver was Brandon Llyod tied at #23, he was the only receiver in the top 25. How can you tell me WR is more important than RB?
1.Arian Foster, RB 313 2.Michael Vick, QB 300 3.Aaron Rodgers, QB 292 4.Tom Brady, QB 289 5.Peyton Manning, QB 279 6.Philip Rivers, QB 270 7.Drew Brees, QB 263 15 8.Josh Freeman, QB 246 9.Matt Ryan, QB 238 10.Matt Schaub, QB 237 11.Adrian Peterson, RB 232 12.Jamaal Charles, RB 223 13.Eli Manning, QB 221 14.Joe Flacco, QB 221 15.Peyton Hillis, RB 218 16.Matt Cassel, QB 217 17.Chris Johnson, RB 216 18.Carson Palmer*, QB 212 19.David Garrard, QB 208 20.Darren McFadden, RB 208 21.LeSean McCoy, RB 206 22.Michael Turner, RB 205 23.Brandon Lloyd, WR 203 24.Rashard Mendenhall, RB 203 25.Ben Roethlisberger, QB 201

mikey, I agree with most of what you are saying but:
This is the comment that makes guys like those top RBs, who do get most of the carries, receptions, and TDs for their teams that much more valuable.
Chris Johnson now that he is signed is probably #1 again. I'm banking on Charles getting more carries and more receptions. Peterson fits this. Foster if healthy. Rice. And McCoy.
But I started to sway away from the RB early theory a couple years ago. Last year I went Rodgers/WR/WR/Charles/WR. I started Brandon Jacobs and a few other trash RBs but it didn't matter because my WRs were going nuts, Rodgers was going nuts, and I found a gem in Charles. You could say Hillis, Blount, Foster, etc all fit that bill too. I won it all by the way.
I'm not saying don't go RB in the first or second as you can get put into a shit situation (see Paul). But I do think it is crucial to get one of the top WRs. And I don't just mean Fitz or Andre. I'd include guys like Roddy, CJ, Nicks. I'd say there are about 6 or 7 & you have to try and land one.

Take the next 25, I bet it is primarily WRs.

right so 9 of the top 25 are RBs, and 5 of those were not first round picks and a couple may not have even been drafted. Similar with the next 25. Then the drop off happens.
the discrepancy between the top WRs and the next group is huge and not usually so out of the blue.

I currently have the most points in the league, but the team I played still had Tom Brady and is only behind by 12.
Fuck you Kenny Britt.
