Alright how about a legit thread to discuss some ideads this year.
I draft 8/12 on Monday in a work league, it's a goofy roster they set by mistake two years ago but have kept it - 1WR, 1RB, 1 TE, 1RB/WR, 1 WR/TE
This league has been very progressive the last two years I was in in, in that many don't follow the old RB/RB adage. I guarantee either Vick or Rogers will go in the top 7 and wouldn't be surprised if they both do. At 8 I am taking Calvin Johnson, he puts up monster numbers with shit QBs, if Stafford can stay healthy even the first half the season I'll be good to go.
Second round, I am looking to grab Fitz if he's there if not possibly Roddy White or Jennings.
Third round I will go QB or RB depending on who's there. I really like Matt Ryan this year, and Romo was putting up monster numbers last year before his injury and before Dez Bryant came on - Romo should last till the fourth, if not later. I also like Felix Jones this year but I know he'll be around late. Forte is an option, but loses TDs, Blount intrigues me. Surprisingly, I want to get Beanie Wells as a back up in around 5 or 6.

I would go Roddy White over Fitz. Fitz has a new QB, and White is a beast on a great offense and will never see double coverage.

I know times have changed but I don't know about waiting that long on a RB.
Ask Paul.

Tommy has a point, especially with so many teams going with a running back by commitee, it's a good idea to jump on one of the top 5 that you know are the sole rb's on their team. The problem is, at #8 all those guys might be gone, so i see mikey's point too.
If 2 teams take QB though, you should still have a shot at a top rb!
I take these 6 before a receiver AP Chris Johnson Jamal Charles Ray Rice Arian Foster LeSean McCoy
next level
Michael Turner MJD Frank Gore Mendenhall Forte Mcfaden Blount Steven Jackson Hillis Bradshaw
and then it basically RBC.

If a QB or 2 goes, I think you have to go RB over Calvin. I'm not sure I understand taking Calvin that high, hell he might make it to the 2nd. If you go WR it has to be Andre.
McCoy & Roddy sounds like a good start to a team.

Here are some thoughts on your responses.
1. Jamal Charles and the Chiefs in general will not be what they were last year - tougher schedule and more importantly - they lost Charlie Weiss calling their plays. Expect a year like 2009 for their offense.
2. I expect Matt Ryan to a) be there in the third, and be have his break out year. This may influence my desire for Fitz over White to avoid a tandem, also not sure if White will get the targets with Jones there now. But I did not consider the lack of a dbl team, good though Diz. Romo was having a monster year (on pace for 5k yards) last year before his injury and he did this before Dez Bryant learned a thing or two. Also, not that I am relying on Lions, but I am going to try to grab Stafford a little earlier than expected to be backup/start if healthy.
3. McCoy I am not sold on and I expect the Philly guys to be high on and possibly be gone before he gets to me. The Philly O-line and Reid calling 60%+ pass plays, I'll pass. Also, I think Brown is going to get a decent amount of carries and McCoy will be the outside runner/receiving threat.
4. CJ over AJ: AJ: 103 catches. 1,540 yards. 9 total TDs but missed three games CJ: 87 catches. 1,310 yards. 12 total TDs but did it with SHIT QBs. If Stafford can play five games, his numbers will be much higher.
The Lions schedule has no top flight CBs on it. The Texans brought in Wade Phillips and I fully expect their D to make big improvements and not have them playing from behind so much. Also - Scott Linehan calling plays for Detroit and their new no huddle is gonna make an impact.
5. Fitz does have a new QB. And as much as I have reservations on Kolb, I know he can throw the ball. He can look good as a product of the system and those around him, color me confident that Wisenhunt will make the Kolb/Fitz tandem effective. Maybe not championship caliber, but they'll get yards and points.
6. If I pass on CJ I fully expect him to fall to the second, BUT I don't think he'll fall to me in the 2nd and I think he'll be the #1 WR this year in fantasy.
With only "needing" to start one RB, I am confident in the guys that will be around the the 3rd and 4th not being far behind the Frank Gore, or Mendenhall. I think Forte could be there, Blount, Bradshaw. I have high expectations for Felix Jones this year, think he'll be there in the 4th. Also second year guys like Best and Matthews should have better years.

Expect guys like Tony Gonzalez & Harry Douglas to benefit from those double teams. 3. I don't care how McCoy gets points just that he gets points. If he is running for 60 and catching for 60 with a TD each game? Take it. 4. The Texans schedule is rough though. They are still going to be throwing the ball a lot. 5. I agree, Fitz will have a good year with Kolb. 6. I'm kind of pissed I didn't get Felix Jones. I think he could have a huge year.

Tommy - where did Felix Jones go?
I think I can get him a half round later cause of the Dallas bias here, but I am debating if I should take him in the 3rd and then best QB left - either Romo, Ryan, or Stafford or wait till the 4th.
I may take him over a guy like Forte too.

Also Tommy - you're wrong about the Cheifs, but good luck with that.
I don't see McCoy getting 60/60/TD either, not sure just think that team is gonna struggle and it's gonna hurt.

Even if they are bad, Charles is going to get his. He's too talented not to. I just don't see how that team won't score. They have a lot of playmakers.

Right but thats a 14 team league. Late 3 or early 4 is probably normal for Felix.

He kept the starters in last night even after Cassel got hurt. Dumb dumb dumb. PLUS Haley has been splitting carries between Charles and Thomas Jones, I honestly think without Weis they aren't going to use Charles dynamic playmaking ability.
