Ok, from what I can tell there's still no hard cap, still no franchise tag, and no proposed contraction of the league or the regular season. This deal addresses none of the NBA's issues. Hope it falls apart.

I hate the NBA as well flats. It's a terrible league. Lebron leaving pretty much killed it for me.

I like basketball, but dislike the NBA. Still beats MLB, imo. But Stern is blowing a great chance to reform the NBA and grow it into the clear-cut 2nd favorite sport in America. Unlike MLB the NBA's got a dynamic sport, filled with incredible athletes - but without competitive balance the NBA will never achieve its full potential. Stern is being very shortsighted with this deal, prioritizing this year's Christmas Day games ahead of long-term growth.

MLB is a much better league. More balanced and a better postseason.
It's just too slow of a game for America these days.

MLB is a much better league. More balanced and a better postseason. Gotta disagree with both of those statements. IMO they are equally imbalanced, and the NBA actually has a much better post-season.

There's been like 8 NBA teams that have won it since most of us have been alive. There have been like 8 different MLB teams to win it in the last decade.
Now, if balance means more than half the league gets into the playoffs, then I agree.
The Red Sox & Yankees buying their way into playoffs is the exception.
As for which postseason is better, its obviously just preference there.
I like hoops too. Wish NCAA forced kids to stay longer. There's nothing like March Madness.

My definition of balance would include payroll considerations and talent dispersal. The NFL's great in part because you can have Rogers in Green Bay and Manning in Indy. Transcendent talents may get drafted into those markets in MLB or the NBA, but they won't be getting their second contracts there - they'll be heading to one of the big cities. And that really hurts both sports, because it is so hard to build a real loyal fanbase for a franchise under those circumstances, especially among the younger people. Kids want heroes. So yeah, the Rays can go to the series every few years, but when the roster is raided every 18 months by NY and Bosotn who are the Rays fans really supposed to be following? The GM?

Yeah, the NFL is ideal, there is no way around that.
Free agency hurts fan loyalty, especially with the younger generation. No doubt.

I heard that something was done that would prevent a repeat of the Anthony/Bosh/LBJ debacle. Anyone heard anything about that?

They are calling it the Derrick Rose rule, but it really was the Lebron rule. If a guy in his rookie contract makes the All Star team twice, or is voted MVP then a team can commit 30% of it's cap to that player instead of 25%. Has to be a longer deal also.
Problem with this is, LBJ and Bosh didn't run for more money. The NBA did nothing to fix itself, it just made the owners more money. Mid level still exists, the owners backed off on that. This is bullshit.

Yeah - all the new rule does is double down on the same policy that failed miserably in the past. Stern has committed the NBA to at least another decade of marginal relevance.

Not to mention this amnesty clause, along with keeping the rules for the mid-level exception, only benefit teams like the Heat, Lakers, Knicks, etc. Decent vets with large contracts are going to get cut from rebuilding teams. Contracts are guaranteed, so these guys are going to go sign with the title contenders for the MLE. Baron Davis in Miami or with the Lakers is scary. I actually think the league is going to be worse off, the only difference is the owners bottom line will be slightly better.

So how many games do you NBA experts see the Cavs winning?
Any chance at 20?
They gonna try to trade Baron Davis?
Sign any free agents?

Who cares, i'll pay slight attention to the NBA but what it comes down to is it's a watered down league that people only care about when no other sport is going on.

So how many games do you NBA experts see the Cavs winning? Any chance at 20? They gonna try to trade Baron Davis? Sign any free agents? I think over 20 is a given, assuming Andy stays healthy. I hope they keep and play Baron Davis for at least this season. His contract is expiring next year, so that's when his trade value will be highest. He was good for us last season, and assuming he continues behaving and playing well I see no reason to trade him prematurely or amnesty him. I think we'll likely sign a FA or two to fill out the roster a bit. Especially if we can make some trades with the TPE, Gibson ,and Sessions. But we aren't going to be going after anyone you've heard of. This is another season for our young guys to gain some experience while at the same time collecting as many ping-pong balls as we can. This is really our first "rebuilding year." Last year was a hangover year, a complete waste. Last season we were in ICU, this season we're starting rehab/physical therapy. The draft looks good. Root for the Cavs to improve, but lose a lot, and for the Kings to sneak into the playoffs.

Well in a 82 games season maybe, but 20-46 doesn't sound all that far fetched.
Are they gonna start Baron & Kyrie together if they keep Davis?

They really don't need to amnesty anyone. However, cutting dies with Davis does make a lot of sense for a few reasons. Next years Free agent class is as big as the one with Lebron. If they amnesty Davis, they will only have about $15 million committed in salaries next year. Plus they will have Irving, Thompson, and Andy under contract still. Jamison will be dealt at some point this year, I am guessing for a first next year. The Cavs could turn it around in a hurry. Young guys develop this year, add another top of the lottery guy next year, and add a free agent or two and they could be heading in the right direction.
