"Lepussy" - LOL. He brought us our only title you fat garbage man. He started all this Carmelo nonsense and could end it by saying Kevin Love isn't going anywhere, but he won't. Instead he questions the best GM Cleveland has seen in years. So now he wants to call reporters trash when they write articles or ask questions? Give me a break. He did say Love isn't going anywhere. You don't believe him when he says he never said go get Carmelo even if it involves Love but think it's okay for a reporter to say he said something like that? It is trash. That's not a rumor that a team is interested, it's a rumor about how someone thinks/feels. Love for Carmelo makes no sense for a team that needs better defense. Carmelo is an overrated chucker.

Cavs found a team to take Birdman off their hands, opening up a roster spot. A likely candidate for the spot is former Lakers backup PG/journeyman Jordan Farmar.

You hear about Love though? Getting a 2nd opinion on his knee. Might be out for an extended time.

On the flip side of that though, JR is healing quick and could be back in 3 weeks.

Twitter has ruined reporting. Why? Because J.R. can talk straight to the people circumventing the "trash" reporters?

Hadn't heard that about love. Thought it was a back issue he'd been fighting? Anyway, if he's out an extended period they'll miss him but it's not completely devastating.

I'd say that increases DWill's chances of being here a while.

The Kings just handed Cousins to the Pelicans. That team might become very interesting with those twin towers. Maybe not this year but going forward.

Wow - Sacramento finally had enough?
I don't see this having much impact on the Pelicans beyond it making Unibrow's departure more likely when his contract expires. This makes them more interesting to watch because it is an unusual way to build a roster, and it will lead to some weird stat nights, but wings win championships. If I'm Anthony Davis I'm trying to find a way to get with Harden or Westbrook, ASAP.

They are apparently going the Spurs route with building around the big guy. And Jrue Holiday is a decent PG.

I see what they're playing at, I just don't think it'll result in big time success, especially in the West.
Elite wings win NBA Titles. It was my same reasoning for not liking the Love trade very much. Look at who have been Champs since 1995 and there aren't many years without Jordan, Kobe, or LeBron. There are a few exceptions, but even those usually have a Paul Pierce or Dwayne Wade in their prime. Clearest exception to the rule is the '99 Spurs who's best wing was probably Malik Rose who never even made an all-star game. Three more probably fit as well - the '03 Spurs (who had Stephen Jackson and Manu Ginobli), the '11 Mavs (Caron Butler was probably their top wing), and the '04 Pistons (who had Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince).
So that's 4 examples out of the last 22 years, with the closest comparison to this Pelicans setup being the '99 Spurs and their two towers. Following a blueprint that hasn't worked in 18 years doesn't strike me as promising, considering how much the game has changed since then.

While I agree wings win titles it might also align with the best players being wings during those years - Jordan, Kobe then Lebron.
I could make a case that if you went back 2 more years - 1993, that of the 23 titles since, 16 or so had an All Star Big.

"All-Star" doesn't mean much though, especially for big guys. Hell, Z made multiple All-Star games.
Wing players I included in the "exceptions" like Manu Ginobli and Rip Hamilton had plenty of All Star appearances. The guys I called "elite wings" are more at the level of "lock HOF'er" than just All-Star. Using that same criteria for bigs over the timespan you suggested we got Dream with 2, Duncan with 5, Shaq with 4, Dirk with 1, and Bosh with 2, for a still respectable total of 14.
But I think the better way to get at the heart of it is to look at how many elite wings have won without an elite big on the team, vs. how many elite bigs have won it without an elite wing on the team. I'll do some googling and post that in a few.

Forgot to mention Pau Gasol and Kevin Garnett as HOF bigs above, so there's another few rings for the bigs column.
Anyway, since the 1990-1991 season (last 26 Championships):
Champs with a badass wing player, but no badass big: 8 (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2015, 2016)
Champs with a badass big, but no badass wing player: 6 (1994, 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011)
Champs with both: 12 (1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014)
Champs with neither: 1 (2004)
So it's pretty close statistically. :shrug

Basically what we have proven to each other is you need great players to win titles regardless of position.

Unless you're the 2004 Pistons. Yeah they are basically the exception in our lifetime. No stars & they crushed a team with Shaq & Kobe. It makes no sense.

Former superstar PG Deron Williams looks to be headed to the Cavs in the next couple days. He's not the player he was when he went to 5 All-Star games, but he's a veteran who can run the point, has experience dishing to Korver from their time together in Utah, and he's still a good pick and roll player which is right up our alley. Not sure how he is on the defensive end of the floor anymore, he's had a lot of ankle surgeries, but if he can hold his own he looks like a great fit for us. sports.yahoo.com/news/the-mavericks-let-deron-williams-go-and-hes-most-likely-cleveland-bound-011834335.html
